This was a pretty good beer. One of the few beers I have had here that actually has a distinct taste since it is actually a German style Pilsner as opposed to the typical Lager.

Asahi The Master アサヒ ザ・マスター

After nearly 2 years living in Japan I have finally found the thing I miss most from home… Poker! Unfortunately I had to travel around 1.5 hours to play and be mindful of the time so I can catch the last train home (11:03pm), but it turned out to be quite fun and profitable. The game is No Limit Holdem with just ¥25/¥50 (25¢/50¢) blinds I managed to take home a profit of ¥13,450 ($134.50). Needless to say I was happy. Besides that it was a fun group of guys who I would love to join in on their game again assuming they allow me back to take their money.

A nice pint of Bass Ale was an additional added value bonus.

Natsuko’s father took me for ホルモン焼き (Hormone Yaki) for the first time. Basically its giblets, organs and all the random beef and pig parts. Ohyeah you can get just regualr meat too. I have gone for 焼き肉 (korena bbq) before just never ate all the extra stuff. I would say in the future I will just stick to the straight up meat. After a whole lot of meat and quite a few drinks Natsuko’s father insisted I try the Snake Sake. I was a bit hesitent at first but eventually I gave in. All in all not bad though it was quite strong.

Out for drinks in Koenji at a place that gives you free Gyouza with every Beer ordered, can’t beat a deal like that. Kinda like Rudy’s in Hells Kitchen  and their free Hot Dogs.

Baseball and Beer

Went to the Yokohama Baystars game with Todd and Jess Sunday afternoon. The Baystars beat the Yakult Swallows 5-3.

And here is a new beer I tried… you guessed it, tastes like every other one.

The Straight Beer

Took a little walk in Naka Meguro today to enjoy the last little bit of the Cherry Blossoms before they are all gone. The river is filled with flower petals which look like snow falling from the trees, it is quite pretty.

Also had the chance to enjoy a nice lunch outside along the river on this beautiful 72 degree spring day.

How could I not try a beer named magnum dry? I should had been concerned since this was my local supermarkets beer label (Co-op) but I was seduced and lured in by such an incredible name. Unfortunately all of this beer’s glory ended after it was named because it was the worst Japanese beer I have had yet. I guess it has one thing going for it besides the name though. Usually most Japanese beers taste the same but this one definitely tasted different, just not a good kind of different.

Brooklyn Lager

Overpriced but it sure hit the spot. It isn’t often I get to see non Japanese Beer options here and it was a real surprise when I saw my favorite beer on the menu in Yoyogi. Despite the high pricetag I just couldn’t resist enjoying two of these.
