Archive for the ‘Engrish’ Category

It is short but I think this one fits snugly in my engrish category.

7nd (Sevend) Anniversary?

It really amuses me when I see big store signs like this with typos. Would it not be a good idea to have somebody check before spending your money and sending this off to the printer? Americans are all over Tokyo, just stop one of us on the street and say “hey is this right?”. But I guess if they could read my blog they might not make a mistake like “Daining”.

Just a little bit of Engrish to brighten your day… That should be Bowl not Bawl.

Prohibition

Though technically correct I feel this word “Prohibition” is a bit too strong for saying you can’t eat, drink and smoke in this place.

Hurry! Last beer!

Another minor Engrish problem. I wonder if they only have one English menu too?

Happy Christmas isn’t the worst Engrish I have seen but it is definitely not quite right. And while we are on the Engrish subject I may as well talk about the convenience store Sunkus. The name is the combination of the words “Sun” and “Thanks”… huh? Well it is actually the Japanese version of the word “Thanks” which is サンクス (pronounced sankusu). So basically my point is that I think the name of this convenience store qualifies for a little Engrish as well.

In case you are still reading you may be interested to know that in Japanese convenience stores are called コンビニ (pronounced conbini) which is a shortened twisted abbreviated version of the word convenient or convenience.

I have been seeing the commercials for this beer on TV for a while now and I finally had the chance to pick up a six pack. Its pretty good, basically like a regular Kirin only a little stronger as the name says. As well the whole 7 thing is because it contains 7% alcohol as opposed to the usual 5% most Beers have. I think that extra 2% is just dandy. This Beer has one little detail that really puts it over the top in my opinion… A tiny bit of Engrish ont he front of the can which reads: THIS HARD AND CLEAR TASTE BRINGS YOU THE GREAT FEELING. Not exactly the worst Engrish offender but it feels off just enough to entertain me.

Moderate Season

Not sure if this counts as Engrish but it sure is a peculiar name for an apartment complex.

Wonderful Engrish

Up until now I have avoided taking pictures of much Engrish since I feel like there is so much out there on the web already. But at Yomiuriland the check list for qualifying to go on the Bungie jump was just too good to not share with all of you.
