American cars in Japan - Chevy Trail Blazer
Saw the Tokyo game show with Katsuo on Sunday. I guess I am just not as much of a super geek as I thought I was cause it turned out to be pretty disappointing. I just wasn’t willing to wait on hour long lines to try some game for 10 minutes which will probably be released in 3 months anyway. Anyway here are a few shots including some Japanese booth girls.
After the Ramen museum Todd and I hit Kirin City for some beers in Machida. Japan seems to have a love affair with Beer and a lot of foam, but Kirin City brings it to a whole other level. So much so I had to go home and learn how to ask for no foam with my beer. So the next time you are out and a little worried about too much foam be sure to say Awa Nashi De Onegaishimasu (あわなしでおねがいします).
It got pretty dead after the table of Obaachan (Grannies) behind us left…
Not a very happening night in Machida.
Todd and I spent a thrill filled afternoon at the Ramen Museum in Yokohama. Pretty cool place made to look like 1950’s Tokyo. There are 9 places to try different types of Ramen, unfortunately our stomachs only had space for 2 of them.
Fukuchan - Hakata Ramen
Ide Shoten - Tonkotsu Ramen
Schwarzenegger limited edition Ramen!
As expected Radiohead put on a great show. And for the first time in my life at a concert I was actually taller than all the people in front of me giving me a pretty good view of the stage. Thank you tiny people of Japan!
The McRib is currently in a limited run here in Japan. Sadly like everything else in Japan they put Mayonaise on it. It really was a letdown from the McRib I remember as a kid. I guess I wobn’t be going on any Homer Simpson Ribwich tours around Japan.
OK somebody needs to tell this school that they have the lamest school mascot ever. You can’t see it from this pic but it was a bag for this school’s American Football team. Unicorns and Football, those are two words I never thought I would hear together.
We braved the rain and headed to Yokohama for dinner with Natsuko’s parents. Had some great dumplings and chinese food in China Town.
The yellow parts in there is honeycomb! As far as I know that was the first time I ever had that, it was rather tasty.
Went to an interesting design show at Tokyo Big Sight. One of the upper levels was entirely converted into a fake school complete with lockers, a nurse’s office and a playground. It also had a couple things you don’t find in any school I have ever been to like a mock soldiers barracks and a Maid cafe. The whole thing was very bizarre and very Japanese.
This was one of the strangest things I have ever seen. On the stage were two girls singing and leading a group of 20 something guys doing some absurd dance. The whole thing would had appeared normal if it was a Boy Band on stage and the group of 20 something guys were a group of 12 year old girls.
One of the Akihabara based maid cafes set up shop here. We weren’t allowed to take pictures of the girls so Natsuko snuck a few shots while pretending to be checking her email (Sorry guys, that was the best we could do).
I was however allowed to take pictures while our maid decorated our cat pancakes.
